October is here, although with our recent temperatures in the 90s, it doesn't exactly feel like fall yet!
But the calendar says it's fall, and pumpkin patch season is officially underway.
It's hard for me to believe that it wasn't that long ago that my kids were little and loved heading out to pick a pumpkin every year. Now I have a teenager and two college kids. They still appreciate the season, but let's just say they're a little less enthusiastic about spending an afternoon at the pumpkin patch.
The good news is that I now have little nieces and nephews to go with, so I still have an excuse!
Whether you're looking for the perfect pumpkin, a place to take the kids, some fall family photos, or just an excuse to get outside and enjoy the season, we have quite a few great options in and around Placer County.
Hopefully some cooler weather isn't too far behind us. In the meantime, here are some local favorites to check out this year.
Fowler Ranch Pumpkin Patch – Lincoln
Fowler Ranch is a longtime local farm and a great option for a more traditional pumpkin patch experience. You'll find pumpkins in all shapes, sizes and colors, with plenty of fall atmosphere for the family.
The 2026 pumpkin patch opened September 26 and is open Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Horton Farm Pumpkin Patch – Loomis
Horton Farm is a Loomis tradition and a great option if you're looking for a smaller, local pumpkin patch experience. It's known for its friendly atmosphere, farm setting and wide selection of pumpkins.
If you live in Loomis or the surrounding area, it's also nice to have a traditional pumpkin patch right in the community.
Little Field Farms – Loomis
Another great local option in Loomis, Little Field Farms has been farmed by the same family for generations and offers more than just pumpkins.
You can also enjoy a corn maze, hay rides and their pumpkin launcher. For the 2026 season, the farm is open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Floating Pumpkin Patch – Roseville
This one is a little different.
Instead of walking through a field to find your pumpkin, kids get to pick one from the pool!
Roseville's Floating Pumpkin Patch takes place Sunday, October 18 at Mike Shellito Indoor Pool. In addition to picking a pumpkin from the pool, there will be games, bounce houses and crafts.

Zittel Farms Pumpkin Patch – Folsom
Just outside Placer County, Zittel Farms is another longtime local favorite. It's a smaller, family-run farm with pumpkins, gourds, hay bales and plenty of traditional fall atmosphere.
It's also a convenient option for anyone living on the southern end of Placer County who doesn't mind making the short drive into Folsom.
Bishop's Pumpkin Farm – Wheatland
If you're looking for the full pumpkin-farm experience, Bishop's is hard to beat.
Beyond picking out a pumpkin, there are train rides, farm animals, slides, food and plenty of other activities that can easily turn a pumpkin run into a full day with the family.
It's a little farther from most of Placer County, but it's also one of the area's biggest fall traditions and one my family has enjoyed over the years.
